Marcus Samuelson

What a famous cook !

Let's talk about Marcus Samuelson.

Marcus Samuelson is a famous Ethiopian cook. He left his hometown in difficult circumstances, to settle down in New York where he worked as a chef at the famous restaurant Aquavit. Yet, he was still young, he was only 24 years old. 

But 6 years later, his life went upside down because of the attacks ot the 11th of September, this made him reconsider his professional life, he decided to help his city.

That's when, he opened his own restaurant the Red Rooster in the neighbourhood of Harlem. His restaurant was inspired by the African-American culture of this neighbourhood. Then 7 years later, he participated in the famous TV show, Top Chef and became famous. Thanks to this experience, he got the opportunity to cook for the first state dinner of President Obama. His success was possible thanks to his talent and the inspiration he found in the Afro-American history of Harlem. Indeed, his famous dishes are typical African-style food.


Kibonen

Such a famous clothing designer !

What about Kibonen ? 

Well, Kibonen is a young woman from Cameroun. We can say that she is proud of being born there, because she always wears colourful traditional African style clothes.

She moved to New York and opened her own clothing store in Harlem, where she became successful.

Indeed, she is known as a famous clothing designer, her worlwide stardom is as big as Marcus Samuelson's. 

She participated in many fashion weeks, international models wore her own clothing brand. Her culture inspires a lot the style of her clothe brand, moreover most of her clothes are made with a typical African style fabric.


André Schiffrin

André Schiffrin was born on June the 14th 1935 and died on Decmber the 1st 2013 aged of 78 years old because of a pancreatic cancer.

Born from a Jewish immigrant father, he was forced to leave France with his family during World War II, after knowing and briefly enjoying success there.

He found refuge in the United States and wrote his autobiography entitled "A political education: coming of age in Paris and New York" (2007).

Then some years later, during the war against Vietnam, he took vow to refuse tax payments in protest against the Vietnam War.

After that, in 2011, he was made a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur by the French government.

Indeed,  he was a succesful writer and editor in both countries, France and United State.
